Atlas Mountains

I took a taxi from Marrakech to Imlil, the starting point for Atlas mountain treks in the region. We went up some crazy roads on the way up with sheer drops to the side and almost hit another car on a blind corner. The car stopped and the driver turned out to be Ahmed, the owner of the guesthouse I was staying at! We went back together and had lunch with the family and also a huge plate of cous-cous. I was very full!

AM1 My guesthouse and in town in Imlil.

We headed off for the first day of trekking up the mountain. Me, my guide (who’s name I can no longer remember), and our mule (who carried the bags). It started to rain soon after we left Imlil and slowly got heavier eventually turning to snow. By the time we arrived I was soaked and had to dry everything out – my passport never really recovered!

AM2 A rainy trek up the mountain from Imlil.

In the morning the sun had come out again and the snow from yesterday had made the landscape beautiful! I hiked back down the mountain again with my friends Melli and Kasi who I met in the guesthouse.

AM3 On the trek back down the mountain.
